You are not the droid I was looking for…
Last night, I hit “play” on the remote control for my DVD player. The DVD starting playing all right.
Also, my fan turned on.
Mind you, the fan has a remote control, which I think is dumb and lives in the little slot on the fan. But still…I wasn’t talking to the fan, I was using the DVD remote. Someone is certainly anxious to be useful.
I haven’t been able to reproduce the effect, but I will keep a close eye and report back.

haha, that’s funny
and I do agree that remotes for fans are fairly silly – ours sits on the coffee table as to not get lost and it’s quite annoying when you can’t find it and it is the only means of turning the damn thing on.

apparently, someone in our neighborhood has a garage remote that turns on and off the light and ceiling fan in our living room, which are also on a remote (though in our defense, they are mounted on an 18′ ceiling, so remote is the only way to turn them on). But, we’ll be sitting in the living room, and suddenly, the light turns off!
